<p>According to reports, a football manager who lost about £1 million on gambling, including wagers on his own team, managed to avoid punishment. According to The Athletic, the guy, whose identity cannot be revealed due to legal reasons, was a gambling addict and had three betting accounts. <p>When the unidentified manager claimed that former English football players Alan Rogers and Steven Jennings had blackmailed him last year, the manager’s participation in gambling initially came to light. The matter subsequently went to court, where the manager was given anonymity. He had wagered a total of £879,000 over the course of two years, and had suffered losses of £270,000, according to the evidence presented at the court hearing. Up to 28 of the wagers were connected to football.</p>
<p>Rogers, who played for a number of elite teams, including Nottingham Forest, was charged with one count of blackmail and one count of tampering with evidence as a consequence of the court case. On the other side, Jennings was accused with two counts of blackmail and perverting the course of justice. However, both of the former football players eventually refuted such accusations. After the management made the choice to withhold testimony to challenge the court’s ruling, they were exonerated of the accusations.</p>
<p>The FA examined all of the police evidence once the court case was over in order to determine the manager’s penalty. However, it turned out that just three of those wagers on football were made after the FA issued a “total ban” on the activity. The regulatory council chose not to punish the manager severely since the figures were “of a low value.”</p>
<p>“We investigated this situation fully and thoroughly since we take all claims of possible betting violations extremely seriously. The latest of these wagers was made in 2017, and none of them concerned the clubs the person was affiliated with at the time. A formal warning was given to the person after all factors were taken into account, according to an FA representative who spoke to the Mirror.</p>
<p>Harry Toffolo, a defender for Nottingham Forest, was previously given a five-month suspension by the FA along with a £20,000 fine after being charged with 375 betting rule violations. Between 2014 and 2017, when Toffolo joined with Norwich City, his offenses were documented. Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford, is now serving an eight-month ban from English football due to a similar offence.</p>
