The six-time All-Star guard cleared the way to join the Sixers by accepting a contract buyout from the Charlotte Hornets over the weekend, as was first reported on Saturday.

The team did not reveal the terms of the agreement. According to ESPN, Lowry, who turns 38 next month, will agree to a $2.8 million contract that will last the duration of the campaign.

Prior to becoming a Villanova standout, Lowry played high school basketball in Philadelphia. Additionally, he reunites with Lowry’s former coach from Toronto, Nick Nurse of the 76ers.

With the Miami Heat, Lowry participated in 37 games (35 starts) throughout the preseason. 8.2 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals were his averages.

Lowry was acquired by the Hornets from the Miami Heat in the Terry Rozier deal last month, and it was mutually understood that Lowry would not participate in games until beyond this week’s trade deadline.

In their last game before the All-Star break, the 76ers visit the Heat on Wednesday. It was unclear whether Lowry would be able to make his Philadelphia debut.

According to the 76ers, Mo Bamba will switch to the team’s No. 5 jersey, while Lowry will continue to wear his well-known No. 7 shirt.

During the course of 18 seasons, Lowry played 1,115 games (866 starts) with the Memphis Grizzlies (2006–09), Houston Rockets (2009–12), Raptors (2012–21), and Heat. On average, he finished each game with 14.4 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.3 rebounds.
