Joe Root dismisses set Jaiswal in the first over of Day 2 (confirming Kevin Pietersen’s forecast) – WATCH

On Friday, January 26, India’s half-centurion of the first day, Yashasvi Jaiswal, was out in the first over of the first Test match in Hyderabad against England, setting the team up for a dismal start. Jaiswal started the day off well against off-spinner Joe Root, slamming a boundary. He remained undefeated at 76 off 70 overnight. But Root, who did not bowl an over on the first day, grabbed the major wicket of Jaiswal, who drove towards the off-side late in his shot and ended up giving the spinner an easy catch.

Jaiswal performed well throughout his 80-run knock, although he would have like to continue and get a big one. Many were taken aback when England captain Ben Stokes failed to give the ball to Root during Jaiswal’s attack of Tom Hartley and Jack Leach, two left-arm spinners. However, Stokes corrected his error in the first over of the second day and was rewarded.

It was former England batter Kevin Pietersen who made the forecast that he could pull off the feat, and call it a wish or a prediction, it came true. “This morning, may Joe Root please bowl first? He’ll make the ball spin!” Pietersen contributed to X (formerly Twitter).

Anil Kumble, a former leg-spinner for India, said on the show after the first day’s stumping that England had failed to deliver the ball to him. “I felt that Joe Root, who has a terrific movement and can really spin the ball, was a trick that England lacked. Additionally, we saw Ashwin bother the left-handers, namely Yashasvi Jaiswal. Thus, it seems that England missed a trick “Kumble said on Sports18.
